One of the experiences indisputably linked to Christmas is ice-skating. The Florence Ice Village is not the New York Rockefeller Center, but it has its charm. I have never skated over ice, and I do not think I am going to do it on this occasion, but I love to go there and observe the eager faces of people, filled with curiosity and happiness. I love to guess who are the scared ones, the clumsy ones, the agile ones, the vanity ones, and even those who show their expertise — they take it as seriously as if they were in a world championship. All in all, this mixture is just great.
Built outdoors around the Poggi pond, in the garden of Florence’s Fortezza da Basso, the longest ice rink in Europe is 320 meters long and is open to the public from 10 a.m. until midnight. Inaugurated on December 6, Florence Ice Village will enhance the Florentine winter events until February 29, 2020, covering from Christmas to Carnival. In addition to the skating track, the site includes a Christmas «town,» Santa’s house, food stalls, music, games and entertainment for children. A New Year’s party will also be held on December 31. The Christmas market closes at 9 p.m.

Florence Ice Village, patinaje sobre hielo en Fortezza da Basso
Una de las experiencias ligadas indisolublemente a la Navidad es el patinaje sobre hielo. Florence Ice Village no es el Rockefeller Center de Nueva York, pero también tiene su encanto. Nunca he patinado sobre hielo, y no creo tampoco que vaya a hacerlo en esta ocasión, pero me gusta observar las caras de entusiasmo, curiosidad y alegría; percibir el miedo, la torpeza, la agilidad, la vanidad o incluso la maestría, todo mezclado y cada pocos segundos. Sencillamente genial.
Construida al aire libre alrededor del estanque Poggi, en el jardín de Fortezza da Basso de Florencia, la pista de hielo más larga de Europa tiene 320 metros de largo y está abierta al público desde las diez de la mañana hasta la medianoche. Inaugurada el 6 de diciembre, Florence Ice Village complementará los eventos del invierno florentino hasta el 29 de febrero de 2020, abarcando desde la Navidad hasta el carnaval. Además de la pista de patinaje, el complejo incluye un «pueblo» navideño, la casa de Papá Noel, puestos de comida, música, juegos y entretenimiento para los más pequeños. También se organizará una fiesta de Año Nuevo el 31 de diciembre. El mercado navideño cierra a las 21 horas.
